Women in Ethical Business Awards 2007
Women in Ethical Business Awards celebrate the women running the nations’ best ethical enterprises. Sponsored by Triodos Bank and Eve magazine, the winners are the leading ethical entrepreneurs, caring about their products, producers, and environment, as well as their customers.
The 2007 awards were held at The Globe Theatre in London on 24th May, and Jill Roberson was invited to attend. In addition to the awards ceremony, there were business seminars, presented by leading members of the Triodos banking team and Lynne Franks, of the Seed Foundation.
It was an amazing opportunity to mix with other business women, some who are running multi-million pound organisations, as well as others involved with much smaller businesses. Exchanging ideas, advice and generally realising that none of us are ‘super women’, just women who acted on an idea.
This year there were two awards – and Ethical Entrepreneur award and Ethical Business award. Polly Gower of Everyclick.com won the Ethical Entrepreneur award. Her business is a web search engine which gives 50% of its profits to charities, which you can select. By registering your favourite charity (really simple), everytime you use everyclick as a search engine, it will register for a proportion of the profits to be given away! Ella Heeks who runs Abel & Cole an ethical food retailer, won the Ethical Business award. Both were up against very tough competition.
Needless to say, I returned to Norfolk buoyed up by new ideas and plenty of enthusiasm for the direction of ethical business in general. Now I’ve just got to work on getting my hands on one of those awards!! |
