Well, the sun is shining outside as I write this, and with Easter approaching it’s time to start thinking about getting out into the garden again.  So it’s a great time to announce that the brand new 2008 Indian Ocean range of outdoor furniture has arrived in the showroom - and with our extra space in the extension, we have more stock than ever before.

And if you were expecting a beautifully-designed range of top-quality traditional and contemporary furniture, then you won’t be disappointed.

Because we have doubled the size of the showroom since last summer, we are able to carry a much bigger variety of stock for 2008, and you can view it in more spacious surroundings.  As you probably know, Indian Ocean furniture graces some of the most prestigious outdoor areas in the world, from the members’ areas at Lords to the decks of the QE2.  And now you can add your own patio to that list!

Finally, we are proud that we at The Living Rooms have been instrumental in Indian Ocean’s decision to boost their corporate social responsibility credentials as well.. The company has always prided itself on its role in leading the furniture industry towards more sustainable forestry.  But when its owner visited us last year, he was impressed with our ethical stance, to the extent that Indian Ocean is now supporting an orphanage in one of its (and our) main areas of supply - Indonesia.  It all goes to show that business and ethics do mix.

MEETING THE PRODUCERS IN BALI

Last month Stephen spent ten days in Bali meeting some of our suppliers, and picking some exciting new stock which we are expecting later in the spring.  You may have read about his exploits in a big feature in the EDP.

Ten days in Bali sounds like a tough assignment, but Stephen’s trip in February was anything but a holiday.  He was in Indonesia to visit the producers who make some of our wonderful ethically-traded furniture and household goods - and it was an educational trip all round.

Stephen was also on the hunt for new producers and new stock, and the outcome of his travels will be a whole container of goods which we are expecting to arrive in the UK in May - and we’ll let you know when it does.

The Eastern Daily Press asked Stephen to write about his trip for their Sunday section, and this was published two weeks after he got back, during Fairtrade Fortnight.

It’s a thought-provoking article, which we have copies of in the showroom, so if you’d like to read it, pop in and ask.

WELCOME TO BRYAN

We are delighted to welcome Bryan Hayes, our newest member of staff, who has joined the showroom team.  The carbon footprint of having Bryan join us is minimal, as he lives in the village, and can walk to work.  Do pop in and say hello to him.
