The Living Rooms began trading at its current premises on 1st April 2004, having moved from premises on the family farm based in the Broads area of Norfolk. Initially stocking Indian Ocean Trading Company garden furniture, the product range has been extended considerably to include fair trade and ethically traded furniture, gifts and accessories for the home and garden.
Jill & Stephen Roberson are a husband and wife team and have made a conscious decision that their suppliers either have a fair trade registration or can prove that they are applying such principles to all areas of production and supply.
The difference these fair trade principles can make on the day to day existence of the producers cannot be over emphasised. By offering an outlet for the exquisite crafts within the ‘developed’ world, crafts men and women in the ‘Third World’ are able to regain their dignity and economic power over their lives. Too many children are unnecessarily dying due to lack of clean water, basic medical provision and lack of food. The reasons for this are many and various, but fair trade principles go a good way to trying to rectify this situation.
The showroom has recently been extended, enabling interior fair trade products to be available all year round. The main range of ethically traded garden furniture is also available. |
